Application process
Please read through the eligibility criteria, prior to applying.
Stage 1 – Precise Fit
You will be asked to complete a short scenario based questionnaire in the first instance, titled Precise Fit.
Stage 2 – Online Application form
All applications must be submitted online.
The automated application form will include information such as school grades and a personal statement.
Stage 3 - Aptitude Test
If your application is successful and you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be sent a link to online aptitude tests to complete at home. We recommend that you carry out some practice tests before completing the assessment - you can find some helpful links on the SHL website.
If you consider yourself to have a disability, make sure the team are made aware of this in advance of completing the aptitude tests so any adjustments can be made.
There are two assessments to complete:
1. Situational Judgement Assessment
You will be given a set of scenarios and will be required to make a judgement as to whether the scenario given is more effective or less effective. There is not a right or wrong answer it is what you consider to be the best fit. The assessment time is approximately 35 minutes based on time required for instructions, practice exercises and completion of the assessment.
2. General Ability Assessment
This assessment evaluates applicants on inductive and deductive reasoning, as well as numerical ability. This measures a candidate’s ability to make decisions or inferences from numerical or statistical data. The assessment time is approx
Stage 4 - Interview
Following successful completion of the aptitude tests, you will be invited to attend an interview either in person or online.
There are many resources available offering helpful hints so you can leave a lasting impression on the interviewers.

Stage 5 - Finalising the offer
If you are successful, you will be given a conditional offer, subject to passing an Oil & Gas UK medical. It is important that you send back the completed offer of acceptance promptly or before the 'respond by date'.
Stage 6 - Oil & Gas UK Medical
In order to be fit to work offshore, it essential to pass the Oil & Gas UK Medical before starting the apprenticeship.
The Oil & Gas UK Medical will consist of:
- Height
- Weight
- BMI
- Basic Vision (including Ishihara – colour blindness)
- Urinalysis
- Pulse & Blood Pressure
- Lung Function Test
- Audiogram
- Consultation with a Doctor
Stage 7 – Contract
A contract will be issued as soon as we receive your Oil & Gas UK Medical certificate.
